Have you ever seen a frog ???? Look near the wettest patch in the garden or near a watering hole in the woods . Here , you are likely to find a frog hopping about on its strong hind legs or swimming expertly using its webbed feet . Its skin is moist , even slimy , and it has large , bulging eyes . Can you near it sing ??? The ' song ' may be a mating call to attract female frogs or a warning call for other frogs .

FAMILY TREE

Another animal related to the frog is the toad . It generally lives in dry areas . It has dry , warty skin and a stubby body with short , hind legs . A common toad does not have the frog 's balloon - like vocal sac .

TOP TRICKS

Most frogs and toads have patterned skin that helps them blend with their surroundings . The Solomon Island Leaf frogs are colored and shaped like pointed , dry leaves . This enables them to protect themselves from predators , such as lizards , snakes , hedgehogs , preying birds and large fish .

COLOUR ME RED

Not all frogs and toads like to blend with their surroundings . Some are so brightly colored that they cannot be missed . Others like to flash their bright bellies when in danger . The bright reds , blues , yellows and purples on their skin are a warning to predators that these animals are not food but are poisonous !
